The Great Gatsby Questions?
It shows how shallow the rich party goers are. They don't know nor care about Gatsby. Their lives are consumed by luxurious parties, fancy cars and over all indulgence. It also shows Gatsby's disinterest in the pathetic socialites who come to his parties. It shows that although he seems to be immersed in their world..he is actually quite above it, and looking for something more. He throws these extravagant parties but he doesn't care to invite any "friends" to it. Also in the book it mentions at one point how in the midst of one of Gatsby's infamous parties, he is seen standing alone and gazing off. This demonstrates his disinterest in the party and those who attend it.
