How to be a better first baseman?

I am most likely going to be playing first base in a company softball team. The players that will be playing SS, 2B and 3B all have a lot more experience than I do and really gun the ball towards me. I have a 1B glove but have been having some problems catching the ball in the mitt when they hurl the ball at me. I want to do well and win some games and am worried that I might not handle the ball as well as I should or might even make some drops that otherwise should be catchable. How can I improve my catching skills at first when those around me have cannons for arms?
